We own this Duett since may 1976. Together with about a hundred fellow members of the Volvo V44-Association Jos and I went to Sweden. Although collecting parts –new as well as used- was the main item, I wanted to return home with a Duett. On Sunday 25th of april we had an off-day, so Jos and I drove into Swedish hinterland hoping to find somewhere a P445 or a P210 for sale.
In the course of the afternoon, driving in a P210 from 1965, we were overtaken by a red P210 with a white roof section: pursue this car.
As the car stopped near a shed it appeared the boys only spoke swedish and no other language, and guess what: this was the only foreign language we didn’t speak… Using hands and feet we were able to transmit our question: is this car for sale? It was. In the dust on the roof several digits were written; in this way we reached an agreement and one of the boys girlfriend put it all in a contract.

A helpful fellow member who was in Sweden as a passenger and so without an own car was willing to drive the car to the ferry in Götenborg and from the ferry in Amsterdam. There were no problems until we were waiting opposite the Telegraaf*-building. (* Big dutch newspaper) Another member of the association, the late Martin Bingen, had bought a PV444 with a original external sunvisor. Leaving the ferry he was stopped and was not allowed to bring the car in without legal import documents. Then he pointed the waiting P210 which unfortunately had to return.
Result was: coming back after the weekend and collect an hardly countable number of stamps.

The first restoration was in the middle of 1976 and the P210 was repainted in the original colour setting 43: Ruby red (46) combined with grey-beige (65) around the panes.

Fun time appeared to be rather limited; shortly after the restoration on the freeway from Velp to Doesburg, the former A48, Gé was collided by a German who apparently thought he could triple… He couldn’t. A tiny photo impression...
In Oktober 1976 Gé went back to the former owner in Sweden. He was so delighted to see the result that he offered Gé a PV444h from 1954, as this car surely would be in good hands. (Read more about this car in Collection\PV444H 1954).
Nice to see an impression of similarities and differences between spring and autumn in Sweden, see for yourself.

This car was used daily until a drunk motorist hit it. This resulted in a new tidying up the car. Since than she’s resting, but still a lot of work has to be done as we found blistering in the painting; a new spare wheel case has to be fitted underneith. (That is ~!@#$%^&* more than 30 years...)

This moment has arrived in August 2012, the final restoration has begun. This consists of the removal of blistering, refine former welding, renewal of floor slabs and especially restoration of all that concerns the bottom: spring assemblies overhauled, new swings and rubbers. The spare wheel case replaced, as well as the beam below it. Everything well treated and now wait -for years- for spray painting en remounting.
